Picture of Business Man Holding a BatEvery year, in the fall, we make a journey back to the Seattle area which is, technically, our “home” while we otherwise live out on the road in our RV. And one of the big highlights of being in Seattle, if only for a short time each year, is spending time with our son.

Now, I’ve never been one to care much about sports of any kind. Never could understand those who spent Sunday afternoons watching a ball game of some sort, but our son is a big baseball fan and whenever we get to Seattle we do our best to go watch the Mariners baseball team play at least once, and because of the time of year we are usually there, we also watch lots of baseball with him on TV.

Right now, October of 2011, we’re in the midst of the World Series. I’ve discovered that I really do enjoy watching baseball, especially because of the time spent with our son. And he loves getting the chance to share what he knows about the game with a novice like me. And I ask lots of questions!

Surprisingly, there are a number of business lessons that can be learned from the game of baseball — 10 to be exact — and I want to share those with you in this special report that I’ve prepared just for the occasion of the 2011 World Series, being played, by the way between the Texas Rangers and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Please don’t dismiss this report just because you might not be interested in sports, or if you only care about football or basketball. There’s some valuable lessons to be gleaned here, plus I think it’s fun to find business lessons in unexpected places.

You probably already know that baseball is known as America’s favorite pastime and brings enjoyment to millions of fans each season. The World Series is the highlight of the season when the two top teams play all out to be anointed with the title of being the best. Filled with memorable characters and fantastic rags-to-riches stories, with a rich history, baseball is more than just a sport for millions of people. It’s mom and apple pie — and now, business, too.

If you take a closer look, you’ll discover that baseball isn’t just a game for diversion and enjoyment, it’s also the source of a number of life and business lessons. After all, some of our culture’s most popular sayings — “You can’t win ’em all” — “He really hit a home run that time!” and, “He was out before he reached first base” — for example, all come from the diamond.

In this report, you’ll find some of the favorite lessons I’ve learned through watching this sport. Whether you’ve spent hours in the dugout yourself, or in the stands, or if you don’t know an RBI from HBO, you’ll find a lot of great inspiration, and maybe even a smile or two.
